Special Needs Campers

In 1998, NEBCA developed a community-linking project to promote social acceptance of all children. Our goal is to integrate special needs children with their neighbourhood peers. Children naturally teach their friends that all children are special.

NEBCA has run a program for special needs children since 1998, but has included emotional needs children in the Fun Rec program for many years before this date. Since 1998 we have hired two extra staff members with special needs training that work directly with a special needs child. This way we are better able to accommodate children with different types of needs.

NEBCA promotes full inclusion within our community for special needs children to help them develop social and physical skills, using such tools as sports, crafts, music and drama.

The number of children that we can register varies each week. The two full time Special Needs Leaders can assist two full time or the equivalent part time/full time campers each week for six weeks. A total of 12 to 24 children can register for our day camp.

Pre-registration is required and will start May, 2008. In addition to a registration form you must complete a detailed PROFILE of your child. Staff working directly with your child will review the information you share with us. School observations prior to the end of the year will be arranged so that we can learn ways to assist your child.

Our goal is to provide a fun, enriched, and safe summer experience for all children involved.
